In this unit one skill I have reincorporated into my life is taking notes in Cornell notes style (Chapter 29: Taking Notes in Class). Taking Cornell notes was a skill I learned in middle school and which I continued to use throughout high school, but I did not use it efficiently. What I mean by this is that when I would take Cornell notes it was just that; I barely never interacted with it afterwards such as highlighting and starring important ideas and questions I think would be on the test. It was also rare that I would use the system as a study tool such as folding it looking at just the questions to help with retention. Since starting college I tried taking a different route to taking notes, but I found it difficult to study them. Since revisiting different note taking styles I have began taking a lot of my notes using the Cornell notes method. This past week I applied it to my Nutrition notes and noticed how much more efficient and concise my notes have been. I've also began i...
Check the appropriate boxes: Usually Sometimes Never I get 7–8 hours of sleep at night. X I feel sleepy or have trouble focusing during the day. X I take a nap when I feel drowsy or need more sleep. X I fall asleep or have trouble staying awake in class. X I fall asleep while studying. X I stay up all night to study for exams or write papers. During this week, I've noticed that with the amount of sleep I'm getting every night, I get drowsy and start slouching in my chair halfway throughout the day while studying. I also tend to take a lot more breaks from studying because my attention span becomes shorte...
Dear Future INDIS 313 Student, I can speak for my fellow classmates when I say that we did not expect our first semester of college to pan out this way, and I am sure we all have had an experience of our own as we went through the motions. Many students may say that this first semester of distance learning was miserable, but my experience was quite the opposite. At first, I was very doubtful about my abilities to succeed, but once I got into the swing of things I began learning quite a few things about myself as a learner. In this semester I took 5 classes worth a total of 16 units, and besides INDIS, none of my classes were synchronous, so I had quite the workload. One piece of advice I have to give is to always keep a planner and color-code your classes. Without a planner, I would not have been able to manage my workload. With a color-coded planner, you can write assignments and tests on the days they are due according t...
