Our Group Research on Prop.16

Comments

  1. Yes on Prop 16! I say this because I feel like it's been a constant battle with discrimination against not only gender but ethnicity. This whole year has been nothing but chaos and that includes the racism and unequal fairness specifically towards those of us of color. Prop 16 would provide equal opportunities overall and for WOMEN!

  2. I agree with Proposition 16 and what was mentioned throughout all those slides. I feel like now a days equality and racism has been on top of everything. People should all be treated equally no matter their race and color of skin. Racism needs a stop!

  3. I say yes to prop 16 since it claims that it will get rid of discrimination against race gender and ethnicity. Getting rid of discrimination should already be a given especially during our age and time. I'm actually surprised it still exist in the work place since I think it should have been illegal to do so already in the first place in our time.

  4. At first, I was against the idea of Prop 16 since I thought its purpose was to give huge step backs on what people have already been able to fix in our society. But as I read what this prop really means, I like the idea of this prop. Minorities and women do need more support than every, I just wish that employment could be fair for ALL.

  5. I agree with Proposition 16 because I believe that this proposition has a great goal of fighting against racial discrimination at universities and employment by promoting diversity. I also think that it is not a kind of prejudice to allow schools and government offices to make decisions based on race, ethnicity, or gender, as long as they help the underrepresented and minorities to succeed, which is what I believe the goal of this proposition is. Indeed, California is already pretty diverse, however, this proposition will further promote diversity by enabling schools to identify, select, and train potentially qualified minorities that are underrepresented at their campuses.

  6. I agree with proposition 16 because it will help people of all ethnicities. it will hopefully forever end race discrimination in the work place. California is such a diverse state and still we have so much discrimination everywhere I see it all the time at my job. I really hope this proposition passes and goes into affect very fast so everyone can work in a safe and good environment.

  7. Prop 16 is a tough one. On the surface of it, it makes a lot of sense. Even the playing field. Questions have about it that were not answered by the presentation are: how well did Affirmative Action work before? Were there gains for those people who needed them, and were they lost when it was rescinded?

You may be too young to remember the intense backlash against affirmative action, though maybe you learned about it in school? People were very upset about white students with higher grades not getting into the colleges where students of color with lower grades did get in. It led to a sentiment that the POC who got those places were not worthy, and once on campus, they were not supported well. As has been shown repeatedly, many students with high scores on tests and high grades are working in a much more favorable environment-white privilege-and test scores are NOT a reliable indicator of how well a student will do, nor are they a measure of intelligence.

I am not sure this bill is the answer, and I'm looking forward to a Zoom that a friend of mine is putting on this Thursday, to help me learn more. I'll send a link to the whole class.

  8. Proposition 16 is highly controversial and important. I can definitely say that I agree with this proposition because racial discrimination has been around for decades and not many positive changes were made along the way. Therefore, proposition 16 will create fairness and equality all around and help by opening opportunities for people of color. I am looking forward to what will happen if it passes!

  9. After reading your slides on Proposition 16, I would have to say yes on prop 16. You all stated that it would repeal Proposition 209. Prop 209 prohibits state and local governments from discriminating against individuals or groups on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin. This is something that the U.S. has had an issue with for centuries, so voting yes on this proposition will hopefully push in the right direction.
